Last year, dairy farmer IJpema from Ezinge started expanding his cowshed. With this expansion – completed later this year – IJpema will have room for 100 cows. This number is expected to be realised by next year.
Dairy farmer IJpema from Ezinge has been using the deep litter boxes with thick fraction for some time. “Our main goal is to improve the comfort of the cows”, says IJpema. “By using the thick fraction, we reduce paw problems and thick heels, ensuring that the cows will visit the milking robot more frequently.” In the construction of the current shed, it seemed logical to use the deep litter boxes again.
Before dairy farmer IJpema had purchased a Keydollar manure separator, he always had his manure separated for subsequent ensilage. “The problem with this approach was that we had a lot of heat generation problems during the summer months”, says IJpema. Before purchasing the Keydollar separator, IJpema compared many other separators. However, he soon discovered that the other brands were more difficult to install. These separators had too high of an electricity consumption. “I use two milking robots here, which means the electricity consumption is greater than at other dairy farmers who don’t use milking robots”.
IJpema definitely doesn’t regret purchasing the Keydollar manure separator. “The product is nice and dry and the machine has a high capacity”. IJpema is also impressed by the robustness of the machine. Another important point for IJpema was the advice and guidance from Keydollar. For example, the capacity of the machine was openly and honestly discussed while not only considering the ideal situation. IJpema was also pleased with the support he received during the startup of the machine. “A number of problems that occurred during the startup of the machine were neatly solved by Keydollar without any additional cost”, says IJpema.
The manure separator is now used in combination with two electric manure mixers that were purchased through drijfmesttechniek.nl. “During renovations, we encountered several problems related to the mixability of the old and new cellars. The Drijfmesttechniek advisor advised us how to best optimise this situation. Now that we use two electric mixers, we always have a mixed product for the manure separator, which requires hardly any work.
